Valediction is dedicated to Jeremy Thorpe-Woods (May 6, 1959–October 14, 2026)

Saturday, December 12th at 8pm, 2026 Suzanne Fiol Curatorial Fellow Isabella Thorpe-Woods presents Valediction, her culminating commission featuring artist Joel Watson. It’s fitting that Thorpe-Woods has titled her final program Valediction, an expression used to say farewell at the end of a correspondence, to bring her yearlong exploration of letters as a curatorial prompt to a close. 

“Performance is inextricably bound to loss,” she writes. “Its very liveness predicates its inevitable, felt loss. Perhaps this is why a professor once told me to always write about performance in the present tense. It is also perhaps why it’s so tricky to know how to end a piece and why once the show is over, we grieve.”
